Cisco CCNA: Cisco Certified Network Associate

                                            Cisco CCNA

The Cisco CCNA network associate certification validates the ability to install, configure, operate, and troubleshoot medium-size routed and switched networks, including implementation and verification of connections to remote sites in a WAN. This new curriculum includes basic mitigation of security threats, introduction to wireless networking concepts and terminology, and performance-based skills. This new curriculum also includes (but is not limited to) the use of these protocols: IP, Enhanced Interior Gateway Routing Protocol (EIGRP), Serial Line Interface Protocol Frame Relay, Routing Information Protocol Version 2 (RIPv2),VLANs, Ethernet, access control lists (ACLs)

1. Exam 640-802: Cisco CertifieNetwork Associate Exam (CCNA)

Number of questions: 50-60

Duration: 1 hour

Cost: $250

Exam Topics Include:

1. Describe how a network works

2. Configure, verify and troubleshoot a switch with VLANs and interswitch communications

3. Implement an IP addressing scheme and IP Services to meet network requirements in a medium-size Enterprise branch office network.

4. Configure, verify, and troubleshoot basic router operation and routing.

5. Explain and select the appropriate administrative tasks required for a WLAN

6. Identify security threats to a network and describe methods to mitigate those threats

7. Implement, verify, and troubleshoot Network Address Translation (NAT) and Access Control Lists (ACLs).

8. Implement and verify WAN links, including frame relay and PPP

The Cisco CCNA certification (Cisco Certified Network Associates) is an introductory level exam for those relatively new to Cisco networking. The CCNA exam by Cisco systems was designed for the candidates who can install, configure and administer small to medium sized LANs and WANs. The CCNA is a prerequisite for the some higher level certifications like the CCNP. The CCNA exam is valid for three years. Job roles for the individuals who are CCNA certified include network administrators, system managers, and network consultants.

2. Exam 640-816: Interconnecting Cisco Networking Devices Part 2 (ICND2)

Number of questions: 45-55

Duration: 75 minutes

Cost: $125

Exam Topics Include:

1. Configure, verify and troubleshoot a switch with VLANs; including interswitch communications

2. Implement an IP addressing scheme and IP services to meet network requirements in a small to medium-size Enterprise branch office network, including VLSM

3. Configure and troubleshoot basic operation and routing on Cisco devices using IOS.

4. Implement, verify, and troubleshoot NAT and ACLs in a medium-size Enterprise branch office network.

5. Implement and verify WAN links, including PPP and Frame Relay.

The 640-816 Interconnecting Cisco Networking Devices Part 2 (ICND2) exam is the second part of the two-exam track for earning the CCNA certification. Passing the two ICND exams can be used as an alternative to the single CCNA exam, 640-802, in obtaining the Cisco Certified Network Associate certification. The 640-816 exam tests a candidate's knowledge and skills required to successfully install, operate, and troubleshoot a small to medium size enterprise branch network. The exam covers topics on VLSM and IPv6 addressing; extending switched networks using VLANs; routing protocols; determining IP routes; managing IP traffic with access lists; NAT and DHCP; establishing point-to- point connections; and establishing Frame Relay connections.

3. Exam 640-822: Interconnecting Cisco Networking Devices Part 1 (ICND1)

Number of questions: 50-60

Duration: 90 minutes

Cost: $125

Exam Topics Include:

1. Describe the operation of data networks, including the operation of TCP/IP

2. Implement a small switched network.

3. Implement an IP addressing scheme and IP Services to meet network requirements in a small branch office network.

4. Implement a small routed network, including Cisco router IOS.

5. Explain and select the appropriate administrative tasks required for a WLAN, including WLAN standards.

6. Identify security threats to a network and describe general methods to mitigate those threats

7. Implement and verify WAN links, including basic serial connections

The 640-822 Interconnecting Cisco Networking Devices Part 1 (ICND1) exam is associated with the Cisco Certified Entry Network Technician certification and a tangible first step in achieving the Cisco Certified Network Associate certification. This exam tests a candidate's knowledge and skills required to successfully install, operate, and troubleshoot a small branch office network. Passing this exam will earn you the Cisco CCENT (Cisco Certified Entry Networking Technician) certification. This certification validates the skills required for entry-level network support positions and can be used as the starting point for many successful careers in networking. Candidates should have the knowledge and skill to install, operate and troubleshoot a small enterprise branch network, including basic network security. CCENT certification is the first step toward achieving CCNA, which covers medium size enterprise branch networks with more complex connections. Passing this exam, along with the ICND Part 2 (640-816) exam, will earn you the CCNA certification.
